Shrine of Virgin Mary and archaeological site of Ephesus | From our hotel, we drive to the Bulbul Dagi (Mount Koressos) and the Shrine of Virgin Mary. It is believed that Saint John brought Virgin Mary here and that she lived in the house upon which the current shrine has been built. This place is today a popular pilgrimage place for both Christians and Muslims. A visit to Ephesus - once a commercial center of the ancien world - is a must when in Turkey. The city was dedicated to the goddess Artemis whose splendid temple (one of the seven wonders) has been rebuilt several times. In Ephesus, you will visit among others a theater, a gymnasium, an agora, baths and the library of Celsus.
